Responsibilities: Company accounting is performed timely, effectively, efficiently, and accurately *Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Close completed by designated dates. *All sub-accounts are reconciled during the close including all balance sheet accounts. *No restatements of financials required; Work is expected to be done right the first time. *Taxes are filed on time and without error — no tax penalties now, or in the future, for late or inaccurate returns. *Backup and work papers are available, orderly, and easily understood by other professionals. *The company close has a defined process with checklists and other best practices, so management and other stakeholders have confidence in the accuracy of the results. *Anticipates relevant questions and can easily answer questions related to the financials Timely and Actionable Variance Analysis *Concise and meaningful variance analysis. *Variance analysis highlight the impactful items, and Vice President suggests actionable improvements. *Senior Management and Managers are aware of where they stand throughout the month. *A rich set of standard reports are available to stakeholders via dashboards and other electronic mechanisms. These reports have a defined schedule and distribution list. Budget Preparation, Analysis and Forecasting *Short-term and long-term cash flow forecasts are readily available. *Consistently and continually working to decrease the cash needs of the company and find internal sources of cash. *A/R = 30 days. *Budget refreshed quarterly or at other periodic points during the year. *Sr. Mgmt. and Managers understand how their spending impacts the budget and financials. *Company managers are empowered to manage their budgets responsibly, and they have the tools to do so. *Drives the budget and variance process and is the company lead enforcer for budget matters. *The financial reporting needs of the President and stakeholders are anticipated and handled promptly. *Capital and other key budgets are accurate, up to date, and actionable. Personnel Management and Department Development *Mentor and supervise staff. *The staff understands their responsibilities and perform their jobs well. Work is inspected within the department before it is released to other stakeholders. *The staff has increasing responsibilities and a defined career path, which includes cross-training, that assists in growing their skills and knowledge for future career advancement. *Delegates responsibilities as necessary. *Employees are constantly gaining new skills and are knowledgeable of industry trends and best practices. *The department has a viable succession plan with enough employee depth to continue operating successfully without direct supervision from the Vice President. *The work environment is pleasant, stimulating, and positive. *The Department and Company have a Team and Can-Do attitude. Financial Analysis and Support for Key Decisions *The Department has the bandwidth, depth, and ability to support key financial decisions such as pricing, employee benefit scenarios, capital analyses, vendor analyses, and other ad hoc analyses. *Templates and standards are developed for financial analyses so they can be performed quickly and accurately. *Financial information is presented to stakeholders in a meaningful and understandable way. Establish, Refine, and Enforce Financial Policies and Procedures *Establish and implement key financial policies such as credit and collections, employee benefits, overtime, purchasing, and other financial and administrative policies and procedures. *Promote an environment of continuous improvement within the Department and Company. *Continually evaluate our systems to find better ways to utilize data and automate the process. *Senior Mgmt. sees steady, consistent improvement in the Finance Department. Leadership and Relationships *The Vice President has a close relationship with the President and Senior Leadership Team. *President feels confident that Vice President’s decisions would be consistent with the way the President would handle the situation. *Vice President anticipates the needs of the President and other Senior Mgmt. *Vice President respectfully challenges the President, Sr. Leadership, and the team as needed, so the best ideas and plans are developed. *The Vice President has a solid relationship with employees, vendors, partners, and other internal and external stakeholders. *Vice President is comfortable calling upon these relationships. *The Vice President is the face of the company on financial matters to vendors, partners, customers, Board members, financial institutions, and other financial stakeholders. *The Vice President represents the Company in the community and to stakeholders, in a professional manner.
Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor Degree in finance, accounting or related field required; MBA Preferred • CPA or CMA certification a plus • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a successful controller or leader of the accounting function in a family or closely-held business with between $25M and $200M in annual sales • Strong knowledge of project-based accounting software • Impeccable mathematics and analytical skills • Manufacturing and DSD distribution experience in food or beverage preferred • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines • Excellent computer skills • Strong leadership and communication skills a must • Must possess “Owner Mentality” – personal investment/support of the team /lead by example • Understands the need to ask ‘why’ • Detailed and collaborative – Lead the budgeting process assisting department leaders to create a successful budget and overall plan for the company • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff and create a strong acct/fin dept that all areas of the company can depend to get info and guidance to aid in making the best decisions for the company Competencies and Skills: Financial Management Strategic Thinking Business Acumen Ethical Conduct Technical Capacity Performance Management Supervisory Responsibility Employee Development / Mentoring Continuous Improvement Financial Analysis Variance Analysis Budgeting and Forecasting Team Building / Leadership
